Yali (commonly mispronounced as Yarli) is also known as Vyala or Vidala a mythological creature sculpted in many Hindu temples esp. in South India. It has been sometimes described as a leogryph (part lion and part griffin), with some bird-like features. The nut cracker was an oft used implement in Indian homes to crack betle nuts etc. Made by folk artisans out of pure solid brass
